American Airlines Center

Allana Buick & Bers, Inc. (ABB) was retained by American Airlines to be the lead design consultant for the re-roof of the American Airlines Center located in Dallas, Texas.

A major storm in Dallas in May of 2022 caused a roof leak to occur directly over the basketball court during a live televised game. This led to the approval of a long-anticipated roof replacement for the arena. This complex project involved over 200,000 square feet of roof dome over an occupied, high-usage, public facility with material handling, safety, and schedule considerations for several roof areas with different compatible roof systems.
ABB first conducted a thorough assessment of the roof to determine the existing condition of the systems and to identify any sites of water intrusion and any deteriorated and/or discolored roofing materials. The new design involved three different roof sections: the four low slope turret corner roofs of the stadium (the A roofs, 4,000 SF), the low slope roofs on each side of the stadium (the B roofs, 35,500 SF), and the main dome variable sloped roof area (the C roof, 135,000 SF). The interplay between these roof sections made design a challenge and required tailored roofing solutions for different areas. ABB devised a material handling plan to safely remove old roofing material and load new materials to the apex of the main domed roof.
Allana Buick & Bers was awarded the Excellence in Building Enclosure Consulting (EBEC) Award for Roofing in 2022 for this project by the Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants (IBEC) for excellence in planning and execution.
