Wainwright Building

Allana Buick & Bers, Inc. (ABB), was retained by the City of St. Louis to provide Exterior Restoration and Construction Administration Services for the Wainwright Building located in St. Louis, Missouri.

Originally built in 1891, this 10-story historically significant office building is constructed of brick and terra cotta cladding, trim and accents, and low slope built-up and single ply roof systems.

The Wainwright building was the first structure to combine a load bearing structural steel framework and masonry load bearing architectural details. ABB performed an exterior wall and roof evaluation on the Wainwright Building and Annex Building. This high-profile, iconic, and historically significant building required careful sensitivity and coordination due to its National Register of Historic Places registration status and to protect the integrity of the building and its historic elements.

The primary purpose of the evaluation was to review the building enclosure including exterior exposed masonry, window conditions, and roofing for possible contribution to interior water leaks, identify repair options, and develop a cost estimate to assist in budget preparation for the recommended repairs.

ABB provided the owner with a program report including photographic documentation identifying conditions, defects, need, and prioritization.
