Allana Buick & Bers, Inc. (ABBAE) was retained by the University of California San Diego (UCSD) to provide leak investigation services at the newly-constructed Student Services Center on the main campus.
Completed and open for the fall of 2007, the five-story steel-frame building is over 100,000 SF and houses multiple departments including Financial Aid, Admissions and the Registrar’s office.
The building began experiencing water intrusion in several places shortly after it opened. Most of the leaks were related to the 5th floor balcony deck and was migrating toward occupied spaces. ABBAE investigated and identified the source of the leaks, and provided a leak log-spreadsheet along with material suggestions, repair recommendations and schematic repair detail.
