St. Patrick Catholic Church
Allana Buick & Bers, Inc. (ABB), was retained by St. Patrick Catholic Church to provide Design, Remedial Services, and Construction Administration for its historical church located in Denison, Texas.
The community-centric cathedral dates back to 1898, and the Gothic revival building features finely patterned brickwork, lancet arches, and intricate stained-glass windows. The church community achieved funding through a pledge campaign. As a designated Texas Historic Landmark, restoration plans required approval and significant oversight by the Texas Historical commission. ABB’s initial inspection revealed that the structure was experiencing water infiltration from the building facade. Additionally, the bricks and mortar joints were experiencing significant deterioration. ABB performed comprehensive evaluations of the roof, walls, and the entire exterior facade. RILEM tube tests were performed at each elevation on the mix of exterior masonry components (brick, stone, and mortar joints) to assess the absorption rate of components. ABB provided meticulous remedial, restoration, and reconstruction work. Our collaborative effort in conjunction with the Texas Historical Commission and the St. Patrick Catholic Church parish ensured that the century-old Texas Historic Landmark retained its history, and now proudly showcases an updated, watertight facade.
