Allana Buick & Bers, Inc. (ABBAE) was retained by Barnhart-Beatty Balfour (Barnhart) to prepare a roof condition assessment for The Weapons & Armaments Technical Center (P-745), located at 2471 Parsons Road, China Lake, California.
The Weapons & Armaments Technical Center (P-745) is a 177,718 SF research and development facility for U.S. Navy’s Naval Air Weapons Station (NAWS) in Mojave Desert. It includes technical and managements support offices, general engineering laboratories, secure compartmentalized information facility spaces and conference facility. The building, constructed with steel framing and concrete tilt-up, had a partial blow-off of the roofing TPO single-ply roofing system.
ABBAE received and reviewed available construction documents (plans, details, elevations, construction specifications and prior reports), interviewed on-site personnel to assess the circumstances of the blow-off, noises, wind events, past history with the mechanical balancing, large door openings, etc., and prepared a written report of the condition assessment in relation to the construction documents. Roof Plans, Photo-Essay, Report, etc. ABBAE also conducted an on-site debriefing and discussion of the initial inspection findings ABB provided recommendations for follow up remediation, forensic analysis, and additional design and inspection services.
