Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center

Allana Buick & Bers, Inc. (ABB), was retained by City of Dallas to provide condition assessment, structural analysis, design development, construction documents, and construction administration for Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center located in Dallas, Texas.

ABB conducted a preliminary site visit to observe the storefront glass system at the lower level of the escalator lobby of the Dallas Convention Center proximal to the Griffin Street Parking Garage. Based on conditions observed, ABB recommended immediate glass removal due to system compression and possible breakage considered to be a life safety hazard. City of Dallas conducted the glass removal as recommended.

ABB provided evaluation of existing conditions of storefront systems to identify defect condition. We reviewed and identified options for repair versus replacement options. ABB reviewed structural drawings of the Convention Center floor deck and loading as provided by the City of Dallas. We conducted site visits to review existing upper floor deck deflection and existing framing. A structural analysis of the existing structure above and below the wall to determined adequacy of the design to support the anticipated loading from a strength and performance viewpoint. ABB supplied report documents to present options and associated cost estimates to the City of Dallas.

Project was completed under budget and ahead of schedule with zero impact to facility events or collection pieces.
