Hitachi Building 6
Allana Buick & Bers, Inc. (ABB) was retained by Hitachi Global Storage Devices (Hitachi) to provide design and construction phase services for a re-roofing project in San Jose.
Building 6 was built in 1970 and originally used by IBM as part of a large Silicon Valley research, development and manufacturing campus. It includes a main manufacturing building of 220,000 SF with adjacent office space for a total area of approximately 300,000 SF. The roof assembly is a corrugated steel metal deck, originally overlaid with Built Up Roof (BUR) and insulation, hot mopped to the metal deck.
In 1995 and 1996, the original built-up roof was overlaid in some areas with Sprayed Polyurethane Foam (SPF) with polyurea and acrylic coating. ABB prepared comprehensive construction documents for roof replacement, flashing and skylights. The project required Factory Mutual (FM Global) review, recommendations and approval.
ABB provided data and information for Hitachi and FM Global review, prepared construction documents, and provided construction administration and monitoring services.
