Los Angeles Unified School District

Allana Buick & Bers, Inc. (ABB), was retained to advise Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) on the engineering, installation and deployment of over 5MW DC solar PV systems over multiple sites.

ABB was the only licensed engineer and architect on LAUSD’s solar strategy team. Our scope included district-wide solar PV feasibility assessment across hundreds of school sites, solar PV integration determination and sizing for carport-based and rooftop-based systems, review and recommendation of revisions to LAUSD’s initial RFP for district wide solar PV installation and applying ABB’s proprietary set of standards and specifications for the implementation of solar PV systems for public clients.

ABB revised LAUSD’s RFP to include standards for the integration of solar onto rooftops to help ensure building envelope integrity, construction evaluation and testing of proposed mounting and flashing methods, materials compatibility testing, developing construction and materials specifications and protocols for the design and installation of the solar systems to ensure that the systems will perform as intended.

The 900-school district has the largest student population in the nation and is the second largest K-12 school district, behind the New York City Department of Education.
