Hot Water Solutions – Solar Thermal Energy

Solar Thermal Energy (STE) systems harness the sun to produce low-cost hot water for residential and commercial use.

While generally considered the simplest approach to alternative energy, STE systems require proper sizing and integration to maximize the savings and minimize the risks associated with an oversized system (bigger is not always better!).

Allana Buick & Bers’ solar engineers bring many years of experience designing and implementing customized STE systems for diverse applications:

  • HVAC
  • Domestic Water Heating
  • Pool and Spa Heating
  • Space Heating
  • Process Hot Water (Industrial Applications)

STE can be a cost-effective solution for any facility with a central hot water distribution system, such as:

  • Single-Family and Multi-Family Residential
  • Apartment Buildings and Condominiums
  • Hospitality and Resorts
  • Commercial Buildings
  • Restaurants
  • Healthcare Facilities
  • Educational Facilities
  • Gyms and Locker Rooms

Similar to solar photovoltaics, STE systems benefit from a number of state and federal tax credit incentives and local utility rebates.   Our staff will help you secure financing, rebates, and tax credits, and negotiate the construction permit process.

Solar Thermal is the most cost effective of the solar renewable technologies. Its primary uses are for heating water in both residential and commercial buildings. There are three classifications of solar thermal: low-temperature (solar pool heaters), medium-temperature (residential or commercial solar hot water systems), and high temperature (concentrated solar power collectors). Solar thermal installations are very similar to Solar PV in the environmental conditions it needs for optimal output.  Solar Thermal not only has a lower build cost than Solar PV but has a higher efficiency rate as well. While the average solar panel is 15%-20% efficient the transfer of solar heat energy into water can be closer to 50% efficient. Further, Solar Thermal qualifies for the same State and Federal incentive programs that Solar PV does.  Because of its low build cost, high efficiency, and economic incentives, Solar Thermal offers a quick payback to investors.
